Janice Frizzell

-------- Clinical Social Worker/Therapist

The fact that you're here might suggest that someone you care about (perhaps it's you) is thinking about counselling.  The reality is that each of us encounters times when life is complicated or confusing.  And often it is helpful to have an objective person outside your situation to help you sort through all the "stuff" and figure out what direction you're going.  I'd be honoured to walk with you as you search for meaning and value, for hope, joy, and peace in the midst of your circumstances.

A little about myself...

For over fifteen years (formally) and a number of years before that (informally), I have been blessed with the privilege of being invited to walk with people on their journey through life.  I have a background in mental health and counselling with individuals and couples.  What I've come to discover is that our similarities are greater than our differences.  We all struggle with brokenness in life in some form or another and tend to be quite creative in how we cope with the resultant pain and struggle.  Sometimes that coping works and other times...not so much.  But there is hope, always there is hope.  I know that from personal experience and from walking with others.

I have a rich heritage in the Christian faith; this shapes my world view and is an integral part of the way in which I relate to others and offer support.

What to expect...

When you come to see me, we'll spend some time identifying what it is you are hoping to accomplish through therapy.  I want to get to know you, to hear about the struggles and the good stuff too.  I want to learn about your values and core beliefs and what your goals are for the future.  We'll explore the ways you cope in the midst of difficult circumstances -- what has been helpful and not helpful -- and we'll look together at new ways of being and thinking that will help you move forward in a more hopeful way.

It is important when choosing a therapist that you feel at ease and safe--that it is a good fit for you.  Therapy is a collaborative effort.  On your part, the work can be hard and sometimes uncomfortable because it requires you to explore and challenge your thoughts and ways of being and to learn to understand your emotions.  I commit to walk with you and to support you in your exploration, to value you as a person, and to see beyond a diagnosis.  Your whole person -- mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual -- is important to me.
